Staff at St. Mary's are very aware of the important role to be played in the area of road safety. The Practical Child Pedestrian Safety scheme has involved the close co-operation between the DOE Road Safety Education Office in Armagh and the staff of the school. The walk encompassed such issues as Green Cross Code and Safer Place to Cross as a Pedestrian. Adequate adult supervision was provided by school staff and DOE Road Safety Education Officers who ensured the children's safety along the route through the square and into the housing estate. This is the second year of a three year programme and St. Mary's is one of only fifteen schools in the SELB area selected to take part in the scheme.
